A milestone has been reached in the construction of a multimillion-pound project, which has been described as a new landmark for a town centre.

The topping-out ceremony, marking the completion of a building’s highest point, took place at The Bench building in Dover as part of the wider £21 million Dover Beacon scheme.

The four-storey development will become a centre for businesses, the arts and an education campus.

Speaking on the project, Dover District Council (DDC) leader Cllr Kevin Mills (Lab), said: “It’s a monumental day, not the culmination, but this is a great step forward to deliver a regeneration opportunity for the district.

“It’s something we can rightfully be proud of and will provide an educational establishment for youngsters, business and digital opportunities.
