A bomb disposal team has been called to a village after an unexploded ordnance was “found in a bin”.

Police taped off Churchfield Way and Bridge Street in Wye, near Ashford, this morning after refuse workers reportedly made the discovery.

Ashford Borough Council leader and ward councillor Noel Ovenden told KentOnline: “As far as I understand, it was an unexploded ordnance found in a bin.

“Most of the cordon has been lifted.

“I think it was around Churchfield Way and Bridge Street.

“There was a lot of traffic coming through the back roads where I was running, so I was playing dodge the car this morning.”

Police have been contacted for more information.
