After a rough debut to the 2025 season on the road against Ohio State, Arch Manning looked much more comfortable in Texas' 38-7 home win over San Jose State on Saturday.
He ultimately completed 19 of 30 passes for 295 yards and four touchdowns while adding another score on the ground. Still, there was some shakiness to his game as he tossed an interception and had a fumble, though the Longhorns ultimately recovered it.
Manning also missed some throws, particularly struggling with leaving the ball short. After a close-up camera angle showed him appearing to wince as he released the ball, there was rampant speculation that Manning was playing through an injury of some kind.
Coach Steve Sarkisian was asked about Manning's health after the game on Monday, and he shot down any injury speculation with a bit of a bizarre response.
“I’ve never filmed any of you guys when you’re using the bathroom," Sarkisian said. "So, I don’t know what faces you make when you’re doing that.”
Well, OK then.
Other online users have pointed out that the grimace is something Manning has done in the past, as well, even when he was ostensibly healthy.
It hasn't exactly been a dream start to the season for Manning, who began the year as the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy as he led the preseason No. 1 team in the nation. Still, he has a few weeks to get things sorted before SEC play begins, as the Longhorns have games against UTEP and Sam Houston before a bye, followed by a road trip to Florida before they face Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry on Oct. 11.
