Authorities have identified two Wisconsin men who were killed in a helicopter crash in Lakeville over the weekend.

David Schmitz, 81, of Spooner, and Robert Drallmeier, 66, of Glenwood City, died when the helicopter crashed around 2:45 p.m. Saturday near Airlake Airport.

Both men are military veterans who founded a group that performed flight demonstrations to the public, per the Minnesota Star Tribune.

Schmitz, who was piloting the Robinson R66 helicopter Saturday, served in the Marine Corps and flew helicopters during the Vietnam War. Drallmeier was in the Army.

For more than a decade, the pair had participated in public demonstrations with a Vietnam War-era Huey helicopter through their organization Combat Helicopters LLC, with Schmitz as the pilot and Drallmeier as crew chief.
