WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A woman has been charged with scamming $40,000 from an elderly victim that she was caring for.

Wayne County deputies investigated a case of financial deception of an older adult. Officials discovered $40,000 was taken from the woman’s bank account, taking smaller amounts of money at a time over several months.

Warrants say Crystal Anderson, 37, was responsible for taking care of the elderly victim.

The La Grange woman was charged with felony exploitation of an older adult and 197 counts of felony obtaining property by false pretenses.

On Friday, Anderson was arrested and jailed on a $130,000 bond.
