SCOTLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) -- Five years ago, 26-year-old Kierra Ellison was killed in Scotland County, and it's now become a cold case -- something authorities say is frustrating -- because they feel someone is out there who may know something.

"Cold cases, especially unsolved homicides, are really hard on law enforcement guys that are working these cases," Capt. Randy Dover said. "We've had several, and it eats at you, because you've got a family that's hurting, you've got friends that are hurting, and we can't solve it. We can solve it if the right people would talk."

Deputies responded to Cliff Gibson Road for a shooting on Dec. 17, 2020, in the Laurel Hill area. They found the body of Ellison, who was from Hoke County, in the driver's seat of her car.
