A woman is in hospital after she tried to stop thieves stealing her BMW in an Ascot home invasion early on Wednesday.

Police said thieves broke into the Hopetoun Street house, in the blue-chip suburb in Brisbane’s north, shortly before 5am and stole the black BMW X3 from the garage.

The 34-year-old woman tried to stop them from leaving, but was struck by the car as the thieves sped off.

She was knocked to the ground, suffering minor injuries, and was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Police said they found the BMW a short time later on Borrows Street, Virginia, and urged anyone with footage of the incident, or from Hopetoun Street between 4.30am and 5.30am, to come forward.
