HOOVER, Ala. —

Hoover Sports Park East has shut off all power due to safety concerns, with city leaders addressing extensive issues after reports of electrical arcs shooting between fenceposts.

Hoover City Administrator Ken Grimes said they shut the power off after residents raised concerns. "The issue is deterioration of the cabling has caused some stray voltage to enter into the fences and things. And we're just concerned that we just don't want to raise that because it's above industry standards," Grimes said.

The city tested the cables throughout the park, hoping for a quick fix, but found a much bigger problem. "It wasn't what we expected going in. We were looking for one problem, but we found deterioration throughout the park, which is a much wider scale," Grimes said.
