Just days before the third anniversary of his death in a horrendous head-on crash, the family of York Regional Police Const. Travis Gillespie filled a Newmarket courtroom as a judge heard final arguments to determine if a young driver should be convicted of impaired and dangerous driving.

On a dry Sept. 14, 2022, just before 6 a.m., Haoju Zhou was driving a Porsche Cayenne when he suddenly veered across two lanes of traffic into the westbound lanes of Major Mackenzie Dr., near Warden Ave., slamming into a Honda Accord driven by Gillespie as he headed into work.
