FARGO — Cat’s Cradle shelter in Fargo will be forced to shut down for at least a few days after several rooms suffered water damage.

Employees said the flooding was caused by the units above the shelter, with one of them shoving shop rags and paper towels down a drain. Executive Director Gail Ventzke said this is not the first time the shelter has dealt with flooding and water damage.

“My first thought was 'Again?', because it’s happened more than once here,” said Ventzke, the shelter’s co-founder.

What makes this time stand out, Ventzke said, is that the shelter’s ISO unit, which she called the heart of the shelter, was affected and will need to be professionally cleaned before it can be used again.

Cat’s Cradle is currently home to more than 40 cats, with more than 100 in foster care
