A planned solar power project at Brockville’s regional airport would secure the facility’s financial sustainability for years to come, city council heard Tuesday.

Vaughan-based Alectra Energy Solutions, in partnership with Montreal-based Kruger Energy, is proposing a five-megawatt solar project at the Brockville-Thousand Islands Regional Tackaberry Airport, which would take up approximately 30 acres of land, Alectra’s director of distributed energy solutions, David Anders, told council.

The Alectra-Kruger partnership is seeking city council’s support in principle, in what is known as a municipal support resolution, so it can submit a proposal to the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
