COLUMBUS, Ohio—Ohio Supreme Court Justice Pat Fischer, after hinting that he might rejoin a crowded Republican primary for the last Democratic-held court seat next year, announced Tuesday that he will stay out of the race for good.

Fischer, who last month ended his unprecedented attempt to switch Supreme Court seats in the middle of his term, stated in a letter to Republican leaders that despite receiving “well over” 100 messages urging him to reenter the race, he “will remain out of that contest.”

“I will complete my remaining 3+ years on the court and continue my efforts to push for more professionalism and civility in the judicial system and in American life,” wrote Fischer, whose current six-year term ends in December 2028.
