HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) - In a 7-0 vote Tuesday evening, the Hillsborough County School Board removed two books across all schools in the district.

The books are "Blankets" by Craig Thompson and "Identical" by Ellen Hopkins.

"Did any of these book bans achieve anything positive for any civilized society? I can't think of one, and I doubt you can either," Cynthia Weiss said.

Nearly 50 residents and parents on both sides of the argument spoke at public comment during the meeting that lasted multiple hours.

Some advocated that the titles be removed for sexual and inappropriate content, while others argued that the novels are safe for children of all ages.
