Hundreds of Nepali and Bhutanese community members gathered in Dauphin County on Tuesday night for a candlelight vigil honoring those killed and injured in protests across Nepal this week.

The local gathering was organized after at least 22 people died protesting a sweeping social media ban in the country. Protestors tried to swarm parliament after the government imposed a ban on more than two dozen social media platforms, including Facebook, X, YouTube, WeChat and LinkedIn, the New York Times reported.

Government forces on Monday opened fire on protesters, with first reports indicating that at least 19 were killed and dozens more were injured. The death toll was later adjusted higher.

By Tuesday morning, all of the social media services that had been banned were restored.
