Rookie Will Warren had thrown six strong innings in his 30th start of the season. Aaron Judge had homered, passing Yogi Berra on the Yankees’ all-time leaderboard. High-leverage reliever Fernando Cruz was entering from the bullpen, looking to keep another must-win game knotted at 2-2.
