The case involving renowned actor Tumpe Nigel Mtaya, popularly known as Phwedo, which was scheduled for hearing today, has been adjourned to October 16, 2025.
Earlier, the court had directed that the State should commence prosecution, failing which the matter would be discharged.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Director of Criminal Litigation, Dzikondianthu Malunda, said several developments necessitated the adjournment. He explained that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has now taken over the case, but the assigned prosecutors are currently attending a refresher course in Blantyre.
Mtaya’s lawyer, Khwima Mchizi, confirmed that both parties have since agreed to shorten the adjournment period from 60 days to 30 days.
