A hefty 18 tonnes of fly-tipped waste was removed from Sherwood Forest in a clean up operation. A week-of-action in Eakring Road was held by Newark and Sherwood District Council, Mansfield District Council, Nottinghamshire Police , Fire and Rescue, and the Wildlife Trust.
Nine Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) were issued in the area as part of the enforcement activity, all but one being paid. In addition, trail cameras have now been installed to catch future offenders.
The removal included 10 tonnes of household waste, three tonnes of hardcore and building waste, five tonnes of metal, such as burnt-out fridge freezers, as well as numerous gas cannisters.
