As Calgarians head to the polls in October we face a pivotal question: what kind of city do we need to build?

The Calgary Construction Association, representing more than 870 member companies and 100,000 local workers and their families, has released its civic policy platform — Calgary: Built to Respond, Designed to Last.

It is both a call to action and a road map for the future, urging policy-makers to recognize construction not as a cost, but as the foundation of Calgary’s prosperity and livability.

Construction is one of Calgary’s most powerful economic engines. In 2024, our sector contributed 8.9 per cent of the city’s GDP and more than $27 billion to Alberta’s economy. That same year, Calgary saw a record 20,165 housing starts, alongside $8.7 billion in energy-related projects.
