SACRAMENTO, Calif. - California is celebrating a significant milestone as it marks 175 years since it became the 31st state in the United States. California became a state on September 9, 1850.
The state's first capital was located in San Jose before it was moved to Sacramento four years later.
To commemorate this special occasion, a birthday block party will be held at the California State Capitol Museum.
The celebration will take place on Tuesday at the corner of 10th and N Street starting at 6 p.m.
Attendees can look forward to music, food, and a laser display after sunset.
