(WENY) -- New York is marking Hunger Action Month by spotlighting more than half a billion dollars invested in food access programs since 2020.

Governor Kathy Hochul’s office says the money has supported 19 different initiatives aimed at reducing hunger, strengthening the state’s food supply chain, and creating new markets for farmers. Programs include FreshConnect, which doubles the buying power of SNAP recipients at farmers’ markets, and a Food Access Expansion Grant designed to bring grocery stores and farm stands to underserved areas.

The state has also invested in school meal infrastructure, farmers’ market nutrition programs, and partnerships with food banks to distribute New York-grown products to families in need.
