The family of a Vancouver Island teenager who died by suicide are making strides in their mission to turn their grief into action and create lasting change.

Sixteen-year-old Andre Courtemanche died in 2021 following an ongoing struggle with anxiety and depression.

In the years since, his parents Denise and Glen Courtemanche, have dedicated themselves to raising awareness about mental health and ensuring support is available for those who need it.

Their efforts began with an annual memorial walk in their son’s honour, each one sparking conversations they hope may save lives. This May marked the walk’s fifth outing.
