Three people from Arizona, including an 11-year-old boy, were killed Monday evening when their SUV collided head-on with an 18-wheeler on Interstate 40 in Oldham County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened around 6:35 p.m. Sept. 8, about one mile west of Vega.
Troopers said a 2024 Volvo truck tractor towing a semi-trailer was traveling eastbound when the driver, 56-year-old Abdinur Hassan of Columbus, Ohio, failed to maintain a single lane. The truck veered onto the improved shoulder and struck the back of an unoccupied Freightliner semi-trailer parked on the shoulder.
The Volvo then crossed the eastbound lanes, went through the center median and entered the westbound lanes, where it collided with a 2022 Honda Pilot carrying three people from Mesa, Ari
