A Long Island woman was stabbed to death inside her home , across the street from an elementary school, authorities said Wednesday.

Melida Velasquez , 59, was found dead in her Brentwood residence around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Suffolk County police said in an alert. No suspects have been publicly identified or arrested in the case.

“She just came back from El Salvador last week . I wish I had come to see her or something,” neighbor Sarai Bonilla told News 12 Long Island. “It just reminds you to say I love you.”

Emergency dispatchers received a 911 call at 5:26 p.m. about a woman being stabbed in Brentwood , about 35 miles east of Central Park, police said. Officers arrived minutes later to find Velasquez dead from stab wounds.
