President Donald Trump dined out in Washington, DC, on Sept. 9, eating at a restaurant in the area he didn't own for the first time in this term.

Trump and a handful of leaders in his administration dined at Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab a few blocks from the White House. They were met with cheers outside and some protesters inside, according to footage posted to social media.

The same day, a video interview from a 2017 resurfaced on social media, where CBC News' Wendy Mesley on "The National" asked Bourdain if he would eat with Trump as he had with former President Barack Obama.

"No," Bourdain said quickly. Here is why:

Anthony Bourdain on Donald Trump: 'I just find him personally objectionable'

Bourdain was a celebrity chef and host of CNN's "Parts Unknown." He died by suicide in 2018 at age 61.

While speaking with the Canadian news network back in 2017, he recounted eating with Obama in Vietnam, but said he wouldn't do it with the newly inaugurated president.

"I'm open to sitting down with anyone who's nice to me. I've sat down with everyone from Ted Nugent, the former chief of counterintelligence for the KGB, Hezbollah — people who I disagree with on many, if not every, fundamental issue," he said in the interview.

"I just find (Trump) personally objectionable. I don't think he likes food. And from people I know who have had to endure dinner with him, if you enjoy sitting there listening to him talk about himself, you know, great, God bless you," Bourdain said.

He also bemoaned Trump's preference for well-done steak.

When Bourdain died, Trump extended condolences to his family.

"I want to extend to his family my heartfelt condolences," he told reporters in 2018. "I enjoyed his show; he was quite a character."

The White House did not comment on the Bourdain video.

Trump at restaurant called 'Hitler' by protesters

Trump dined out on Tuesday to highlight his safety efforts in the nation's capital. He arrived with Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

People across the street cheered for Trump when he arrived, according to a pool report, and he also received some boos.

Social media footage from inside the restaurant posted by CODEPINK feminist organization shows protesters inside the restaurant chanting at him, "Free DC. Free Palestine. Trump is the Hitler of our time."

Protesters were escorted out of the restaurant shortly after Trump's arrival, according to the pool report.

“Liberals suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome having public meltdowns and opposing commonsense efforts to stop violent crime is nothing new," White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said about the protesters in a statement to USA TODAY. "President Trump has successfully cleaned up DC and made the city safer for all – elected Democrats are taking their cues from these wackos, and that’s why they proudly support violent criminals instead of law and order.”

Another video shared by the president's communications team showed him leaving the restaurant with cheers.

"We have a safe city. Enjoy yourselves — you won't be mugged going home," Trump said in the video posted to X. "Have a good time, everybody. Don't drink too much."
