State Sen. Charlie McClintock plans to draw on his legislative track record to stand out in what is expected to be a crowded Republican field in the 2026 race for Iowa's 2nd Congressional District as he launches his campaign.

The Republican from Alburnett was first to join the race after U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst announced Sept. 2 that she would not seek reelection to the U.S. Senate . Hours later, U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson announced her own Senate candidacy , leaving an open seat in the 2nd District.

In an interview with the Des Moines Register on Wednesday, Sept. 10, McClintock said he will ask people to trust that he will bring the same level of responsiveness and dedication to Congress that he has offered as an Iowa lawmaker.
