MADISON, Wis. -- A 17-year-old La Follette High School student was taken into custody after police found a gun in his backpack off campus, according to police and school officials.

Law enforcement was dispatched to the school at around 10:45 a.m., The Madison Police Department and the Madison Metropolitan School District Office School of Safety came into contact with Donshawn Davis. This came after school staff was made aware of a student potentially bringing a weapon to school

La Follette High School Principal Matthew Thompson sent an email to families, stating the handgun was found off campus. Davis is in the Dane County Jail facing tentative charges for carrying a concealed weapon, underage possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm on school property.
