Love is a four-letter L word and one of the most used, misused, and abused words in our language. It's a common substitute for two other four-letter L words, lust and like.

Love at first sight is a myth and a sad joke. Lust at first sight? Of course. Or should it be infatuation at first sight? Think about it; you don't know that person.

English is an extremely difficult language to learn, even if you are born into it, largely because of exceptions to rules and pronunciation variations. Pronounce these words that end in "ough": tough, dough, and bough. And how about words ending in "augh"? It seems there are endless exceptions and variations in pronunciations.

A thing that amazes me is that there is no word in the English language whose definition falls between love and like. None. Absol
