Park City High School senior Sonja Preston has always been academically driven. She’s been taking practice ACTs since eighth grade, so another standardized test didn’t seem too hard.
The high school offered a free PSAT (preliminary SAT) course to help students practice for the college admissions test. Sonja signed up, not realizing that the PSAT is also the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program, which honors the highest-performing students nationwide.
This week, Sonja learned she is one of seven Park City High School seniors who have been named semi-finalists in the prestigious scholarship program. The other honorees are Nolan Conneally, Cohen Flach, Henry Hayes, Weijia Li, Owen Osorio and Parker Taix.
