SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) — Mayor Ed Lawson, who has served as Sparks’ mayor since 2020 and on the city council since 2010, is seeking re-election to continue guiding the city through rapid growth, infrastructure challenges, and budget pressures.
Lawson, 65, has called Sparks home since 1989 after moving from Las Vegas, where he grew up. Born in Washington state, he relocated to Las Vegas at age three and lived there through high school. He attended Colorado State University on a full football scholarship as an offensive guard.
“Soon as I got out of school, the economy crashed,” Lawson said. “I was selling life insurance. If you get a choice between paying your mortgage or paying your life insurance, you’re going to pay your mortgage so you have a place to live.”
