A Scottish man died of cardiac arrest days after having difficulty in the swimming portion of an Ironman race in the United Kingdom, an inquest heard this week.

According to the BBC , 31-year-old Sam Buchan was competing in the Ironman 70.3 Swansea triathlon on July 13 when he experienced trouble in the water.

Buchan, from Fraserburgh, approximately 65 kilometres north of Aberdeen, was helped into a support boat about one kilometre into the swim and given mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

He was then rushed to a Swansea hospital, but died when the decision was made by his family and doctors to “end intervention” three days later.
