GRAND RAPIDS, MI — One of the oldest office buildings in Grand Rapids could soon see three floors of vacant office space converted into 36 apartments for middle- and lower-income residents.

The Grand Rapids Downtown Development Authority (DDA) signed off on a request Wednesday from the owner of the Ledyard Building, CWD Real Estate Investment, for $4.6 million in tax incentives to help finance the conversion. The project’s overall price tag is estimated at $11.4 million.

The Ledyard Building, 125 Ottawa Ave. NW, was built in 1874 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. CWD describes it as the “second-oldest, commercial building operating in Grand Rapids.”
