Faced with a waterline project running 23% over budget and memories of back-to-back droughts, Strasburg council members Tuesday approved costly fixes for the Sandy Hook Waterline project and adopted new water-use restrictions to head off future shortages.

Council voted unanimously to authorize three change orders totaling $135,214 for the Sandy Hook waterline project, a 23% increase over the original $584,518 contract: $38,740 to locate the existing line, which was found to be as much as 40 feet off-mark, $76,203 to relocate a hydrant at Sandy Hook Elementary and $20,271 to repave a private driveway affected by the work.
