A fourth auto insurer has announced its plans to leave Alberta, citing challenges in the province’s auto insurance market and rising costs of auto claims.
CUMIS, a subsidiary of Co-operators General Insurance, announced on Tuesday that starting on Jan. 1 of next year, it will no longer offer quotes or renew home and auto insurance contracts in Alberta.
“This necessary decision is in direct response to ongoing challenges in Alberta’s auto insurance market, including the rising cost of auto claims,” the statement read.
CUMIS will be the fourth insurance provider to leave Alberta over the last two years, starting in 2023 when Zenith Insurance, which sold auto insurance policies through Costco, was the first to leave the market.
