OBERLIN, Ohio — Ruth Devereaux and Yolanda Cruz are hunched over a computer screen, meticulously planning their next adventure. "India Treasures of North and South," Ruth reads aloud. "Twelve days."

"No, that's too long. I don't wanna be gone that long," Yolanda responds, scrolling through options.

At 72 and 74 respectively, most people might expect these women to be slowing down. Instead, they're debating train routes through India and planning spring hikes on the Appalachian Trail.

Their friendship began in the most ordinary way imaginable — through a book club.
