PHOENIX — Arizona State University Republicans are shocked by the death of Charlie Kirk , who was shot and killed at an event in Utah on Wednesday. A person of interest is in custody , officials said during a news conference.

Kirk, a conservative activist, was a fixture on college campuses across the country, and he often visited ASU. In 2024, Kirk held an event on the campus, which brought a large crowd with a lot of debate.

The former leader of the ASU Republican group, Carson Carpenter, said he first met Kirk in 2023 and said Kirk thrived talking with students on college campuses.
