Prime Minister Mark Carney’s condemnation of Israel for bombing Hamas’ headquarters in Doha, the capital of the Mideast monarchical dictatorship of Qatar, fits one of the definitions of antisemitism that Canada endorses.

That is “applying double standards by requiring of Israel a behaviour not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation”.

This is part of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s Working Definition of Antisemitism, adopted by Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government in 2019, as part of its anti-racism strategy.

In a tweet on X and comments since Tuesday, Carney has condemned Israel’s actions as an “unprovoked attack,” as well as an “intolerable expansion of violence and an affront to Qatar’s sovereignty.”
