CROOKSTON, Minn. — Hundreds of University of Minnesota workers are on strike after the Teamsters union rejected the university’s last, best and final contract offer.

The union represents about 1,400 maintenance, food service and janitorial workers at the Crookston, Duluth, Morris and Twin Cities campuses.

At the Crookston campus, 24 of about 40 Teamsters-represented workers continued their strike Wednesday, Sept. 10.

“I just want the university to know that we’re here for them, and they should be here for us,” said Douglas Langer, a Minnesota Crookston alum who has worked at the university for 26 years and now serves as chief engineer at the heating plant.

Langer is also part of the local union’s negotiating team and said they made little progress with the university ahead of the strik
