WRENSHALL — Mark and Shaela Anderson remember their daughter Avery Anderson as a constant source of energy who would fly out of bed each morning and spend hours on end running and playing outside.

“She was very brave. She was fearless,” Shaela said. “She could do monkey bars like nobody's business.”

On her 11th birthday on Sept. 5, Avery was killed after being struck by a pickup while riding her bicycle on Broadway Street.

The 49-year-old man from Summerville, South Carolina, who struck her was cooperative and showed no sign of impairment, according to a news release from the Carlton County Sheriff's Office. Avery was taken by helicopter to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis but succumbed to her injuries.
