KENNER, La. — Robert and Debbie Ohlsen are finally moving back into their Tulane Drive home one year after Hurricane Francine left Kenner's University Subdivision underwater.
They painstakingly rebuilt from the ground up, including new flooring, walls, and an HVAC system.
"I'm happy, but it is still a long road home," Debbie Ohlsen said. "Still a long road to unpack everything."
"It was just gushing in, just gushing in, through all the walls, everything," Debbie Ohlsen said in the front yard of her flooded home last September. "It was unbelievable. You don't know where to begin. What to do."
The storm dumped up to a foot of rain across the East Bank of Jefferson Parish.
That overwhelmed the parish's pumping capacity and caused drainage canals from Metairie to Kenner to overflow.
