BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) - Bristol Motor Speedway welcomes night racing for the 47th year on Saturday, marking the biggest motorsports week of the year in the Tri-Cities.

"This is the most anticipated race for so many people who come in from all over the world," Bristol Motor Speedway General Manager Jerry Caldwell said.

The first race under the lights was in 1978. Caldwell said the race in many ways is the identity of the region.

"It is like a family reunion for so many," Caldwell said. "They camp in the same spots. They camp at the same campground, around the same people. Other sports, they may tailgate for a few hours and we tailgate for a few days. And that's what creates those lifelong memories and keeps folks coming back year after year."
