MCRAE-HELENA, Ga. — Twenty-four years after losing her 15-month-old daughter in a tragic accident, Wendy Lee continues to honor Sailor Kate's memory by spreading kindness throughout her community and beyond.

Lee, a local teacher , has transformed her grief into a ministry that provides comfort to other grieving families through teddy bears, quilts and unwavering support.

"She was so cute. Oh my goodness, she had blonde hair, big brown eyes," Lee said of her daughter, who died in 2001. "She was just 15 months old, already had a little personality."

Following Sailor Kate's funeral, the tight-knit community rallied around Lee's family, sending dozens of teddy bears to show their support. That outpouring of love became the foundation for Lee's ongoing mission to help other families facing
