CHICAGO (WGN) — A federal judge has released a Downers Grove man, who investigators allege wrote the names of prominent U.S. political figures on rifle bullets and posted violent messages on social media, on a $10,000 secured bond and ordered him to home confinement and electronic monitoring.
Michael D. Stover, 33, is charged with one count of using interstate commerce to make a threat. The allegations in Stover’s federal court case center on his use of social media accounts to make numerous threats referencing elected and law enforcement officials between Feb. 2025 and July 2025.
On Wednesday, U.S. Magistrate Judge M. David Weisman denied the government’s request to detain Stover pending trial. Weisman granted third party guardianship to Stover’s mother, who he was ordered to stay with
