CLOVIS, N.M. —

Two parents in Clovis have now been charged in connection with the death of their 1-year-old.

In November 2024, detectives responded to the scene for a 1-year-old, Cailan Skywater, who had been taken to Plains Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead. An autopsy revealed Skywater had bruising to 70-80% of his body and bruising to his head.

The child's mother, Donna Phillips, stated that the child had gotten the bruises through rough play with his sibling and a fall from their highchair.

Both parents, Donna Phillips, 22, and Onesimus Skywater, 33, were interviewed by investigators, and search warrants were executed at their residence.
