MIAMI -- Xavier Edwards collected three hits, including a homer, in the Marlins’ 8-3 comeback victory over the Nationals on Wednesday night at loanDepot park. Miami snapped its five-game skid against Washington, which had swept the Fish in a three-game set last week in the nation’s capital.

A slumping Edwards, who was given a mental and physical break on Friday and Saturday against the Phillies, recorded his first three-hit performance since Aug. 8 -- when he was flirting with the batting title, boasting a .303 average (now at .282).

Held scoreless by righty Jake Irvin through five innings, the Marlins turned a 3-0 deficit into a 4-3 lead in the sixth while taking advantage of the Nationals’ sloppy defense.
