A Park Meadows man on Wednesday evening held a tribute in Park City in honor of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University earlier in the day.

Some drivers honked horns as they passed Scott Cummings on S.R. 224 at Payday Drive.

Cummings said Kirk had “strong faith, focus on family,” and he inspired young people.

“Charlie was a patriot who spoke to a lot of people,” he said.

Kirk was speaking at a student-sponsored event with Turning Point USA around 12:20 p.m. when he was shot, according to the Utah Department of Public Safety. He was taken to Timpanogos Regional Hospital and pronounced dead “hours later.”
