NEW YORK -- The last time Jack Flaherty took the mound at Yankee Stadium, he was trying to pitch the Dodgers to a World Series title, and Gleyber Torres was one of the Yankee hitters in his way. On Wednesday, Flaherty provided a reminder why he’s still a critical part of the Tigers’ postseason hopes, and he got a big bit of help from his now-teammate Torres.
While Flaherty shut down the Yankees for five innings with seven strikeouts in his best outing in three-plus weeks, Torres broke up a scoreless pitchers' duel with a two-run single in the fifth inning and added another RBI in the seventh before Riley Greene’s 33rd home run of the season sealed an 11-1 win .
