MADISON, Wis. -- Almost exactly a year before being assassinated at Utah Valley University, Charlie Kirk visited Library Mall on UW-Madison's campus to speak with college students on his 'You're Being Brainwashed' tour ahead of the 2024 election.

“I briefly talked to him. We kind of argued, but it was fun, like he was always super respectful," said Co-President of UW-Madison College Republicans Benjamin Rothove.

“I was excited to be covering something during the election," said News 3 Now intern Zindzi Frederick, who was a student journalist covering the event for the Badger Herald.

Both attended Kirk's visit to UW-Madison just months before the presidential election.

“I would describe the environment as honestly, it was pretty respectable from what I was there for," said Frederick.
