SAN DIEGO -- It was quite a get-away day for the Cincinnati Reds, and it wasn’t limited to their 2-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night at Petco Park.

The Reds scored twice off reliever Adrian Morejon in the eighth inning -- and that was enough. Elly De La Cruz and pinch-hitter Miguel Andujar contributed the RBI singles.

Cincinnati starter Andrew Abbott was superb, working eight innings and allowing a run, five hits and two walks. The All-Star southpaw struck out six.

Not only did the Reds take the rubber game of the three-game series, but they gained ground on the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants in the National League Wild Card race.
