SHREVEPORT, La. - A $24 million investment has helped transform a Shreveport neighborhood into an affordable housing community.
Bayou Grande near downtown Shreveport has been at the center of a major revitalization effort.
The project is the result of Shreveport's Choice Neighborhood Grant and offers more than housing.
Case workers now help families break the cycle of homelessness through support services, workforce training and health care access.
"This particular neighborhood has suffered from past years of decay and disinvestment. Nobody wanted to come downtown or near downtown. Now we have together built a community that really plays host to new businesses, new homeowners and new possibilities," said Shreveport Community Development Director Verni Howard.
