There was no comeback magic this time.
The Blue Jays almost rallied for the second straight night against the Houston Astros but ultimately lost 3-2 on Wednesday at Rogers Centre.
Toronto battled back from a two-run deficit to tie the Astros 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning. But Jays closer Jeff Hoffman gave up a home run in the top of the ninth to Yainer Diaz and it proved too much for the Jays offence.
The bad news is that Toronto no longer has the best record in the American League. The good news is that the Jays didn’t lose any ground to the Yankees and Red Sox, with one less game on the schedule for the two teams to try to cut Toronto’s lead.
